I said nobody moves house for speakers

In October I said nobody changes house to change speakers, and by February I had changed house; I stand by both.

In October 2025 I said that nobody changes house every time they change speakers. By February 2026 I was sitting in a new listening room. Both statements are mine, and I stand by both.

The old room was L-shaped, with one possible speaker position, one circuit for everything and the right speaker pushed against a full glass wall to the balcony. I called myself cursed with the worst room possible, and I meant it. I had a DAC upgrade planned and bigger Wilsons in mind. I put both on hold.

Don't misunderstand me, I did not move for a pair of speakers. The biggest problem in my system was not a component, it was the room, and that had to change first. No speaker swap was going to free a system the room was holding hostage.

The rule still holds for almost everyone. The room stays where it is while speakers come and go, so the money you put into it is permanent. You will not be treating your room every time you change speakers either. What changed for me is that the room itself had become the component due for an upgrade.

I was right about the speakers. I was wrong to think the room could never be the thing you replace.
