Start with a choice
The site uses browser storage for sign-in, requested features and your preferences. Optional YouTube players stay off until you allow them. Page views are measured with Ahrefs Web Analytics, which sets no cookies, and with Google Analytics, which sets its measurement cookie only after you choose Allow all or switch Analytics on in the settings; otherwise it runs cookie-free. There is no advertising SDK on the site.
Essential only keeps optional players disabled and analytics cookie-free. Allow all remembers permission for embedded YouTube players and for the Google Analytics cookie. Choose settings explains the choice in more detail. A video can also be allowed once without remembering permission for later videos. Scrolling or continuing to read does not grant permission.
What is stored, and for how long
Cookies are small records sent to a browser. Local storage keeps values for this site in the browser; session storage normally lasts for the current tab session.
- Sign-in session First-party cookie
tsl_local_session_8766keeps your sign-in session. It is HttpOnly, Secure and SameSite=Strict, and expires after seven days or is cleared when you sign out. It is set only when you use sign-in.- Privacy choice Local storage · up to 180 days
tsl.privacy.v1records the notice version, your YouTube choice, the decision time and expiry. After expiry, permission must be chosen again. The 180-day period is the site’s chosen preference period, not a universal legal requirement. If browser storage is unavailable, the choice cannot be reliably remembered.- Appearance and interactions Local storage · until cleared
- Theme, motion and reading-view preferences, reactions, and saved conversation or reply drafts remain in this browser until cleared or replaced. They are used for their corresponding site features, not advertising profiles.
- Google Analytics First-party cookies · up to 13 months · only after you allow analytics
_gaand_ga_9GX290R24Rdistinguish visits and sessions for Google Analytics. They are set only after you choose Allow all or switch Analytics on in the settings; choosing Essential only removes the permission and no new cookie is set.- Likes and guest contribution controls First-party cookie · up to one year
tsl_visitor_8766uses a random browser identifier when you like, report or contribute without signing in. It remembers your reactions and lets this browser edit its guest comments. The server stores a hash of the identifier. The cookie is HttpOnly, Secure and SameSite=Strict, and lasts up to one year. It is not an advertising or analytics identifier. Clearing it can remove your ability to manage those guest comments from this browser; it does not erase the public contributions.- Discussion drafts Local storage · up to seven days
tsl-discussion-draft-v27:*keeps unfinished comment text, the display name and listening context you entered, and reply or edit context on this device. It clears after a successful submission or Clear draft. Expired drafts are discarded when you return to the conversation.- Contact form draft Local storage · up to seven days
tsl-contact-draft-v25keeps the enquiry details you enter so you can return to an unfinished message. It is removed after a successful submission or when you choose Clear draft, and an expired draft is discarded when you return to the form. It does not store passwords.- Question and newsletter controls Local storage · until cleared
- Question-ownership and newsletter-management tokens let this browser manage the associated submission. Clearing them may remove that convenient access; it does not, by itself, erase the server record.
- Tab session and question drafts Session storage
- The site remembers a return position and temporary question drafts, which may include an optional email you entered. These normally end with the tab session; a successful question submission clears its draft. Browser session-restore behaviour can differ.

Before a YouTube player loads
The site presents locally hosted video previews. Choosing to allow and load an embedded player connects your browser to YouTube/Google. Those services can receive your IP address, browser and device information, and playback activity, and may access or store information on your device.
TSL uses youtube-nocookie.com privacy-enhanced embeds. This limits certain personalisation based on embedded views; it does not mean that the player is anonymous or that it processes no information. YouTube may display advertisements within the player, independently of TSL’s editorial relationships.
Review the Google Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab) and YouTube Terms of Service (opens in a new tab). Further detail is available in YouTube’s explanation of privacy-enhanced mode (opens in a new tab). You can instead choose a direct “Watch on YouTube” link, which opens the external service under its own policies.
Changing or withdrawing permission
Open in the footer or on this page. Choosing Essential only stops further optional player loading and removes players currently embedded on this page. You can grant permission again when you want to watch.
Withdrawing permission does not undo information already transmitted to YouTube or automatically remove storage controlled by Google on its own domains. Use the relevant browser controls and Google privacy settings for those records. TSL cannot erase third-party-domain storage from this page.
Clearing this site’s browser data removes locally stored preferences and drafts and may require you to sign in or choose settings again. It does not erase your account, contributions or other database records. See Your choices and requests.
When the service changes
New analytics, advertising tools, embeds or production providers must be assessed and described before they are enabled. Consent to YouTube here is not consent to an unspecified future service.
