Nothing in the chain changed

Same speakers, electronics, cables and sources; only the room and the power changed, and my system sounded like a different system.

The same hi-fi rack photographed twice as a diptych, cramped in a narrow corner on the left and breathing in a wide, softly treated rectangular room on the right.

Same Wilson Yvettes. Same C12000 and MC611 monoblocks, same Transparent cables, same sources. Nothing in my signal chain changed, and my system sounds like a different system.

The only things that changed were the room and the power infrastructure: a rectangular room where the speakers could finally be positioned properly, treatment that respects it as a living room, and dual 40-amp circuits, one per monoblock, on new wiring from the main board. The improvement was not subtle. It was transformative.

Let me be direct with you about the power part, because I am careful with it. My IsoTek conditioning was the same before and after, and in my own system its gains have been mixed and subtle. What changed was the circuit behind the wall. The building and the internal house infrastructure decide more than the brand you plug into them.

Before the move, a new DAC and bigger Wilsons were next on my list. That money would have gone into components feeding a room that could not show what they did. Instead, the system I already owned finally sounded like it always could have.

I nearly paid for new gear to get a new sound. The new sound was already on my rack, waiting for a room.
