Tell me the plant, the album and the sound

My answer to buying vinyl blindly is a shared record of which pressings are good, built plant by plant by the people who bought them.

Under my vinyl film I pinned one request. I want to hear the pressing plant, the album and how it sounded. That question is my opinion in its shortest form.

One collector, however careful, cannot map this problem. I tested four albums, three of them from the same upper-tier plant, and found that each side comes off its own stamper, so one side can be clean while the others are defective. Four albums are evidence for me; they are not a database for you.

And you, fellow audiophiles, answered. Album, edition, plant, what was wrong with it, whether a replacement fixed it: hundreds of you wrote it down under one video. One of you bought the same box set twice, returned it twice and bought the CD.

That is worth more than any review, because nobody in it is selling anything. The dead wax tells you the plant and the engineer; your report tells the next buyer what that plant actually delivered. Plant by plant, the honest record gets built by the people who paid for the records.

So keep reporting. Every honest comment is one blind purchase somebody else does not have to make.
