Do I have the foundation?

Before a speaker like the Yvette, ask whether system, room and electronics are ready, because for most people the La Scala is right.

Before you buy a speaker like the Wilson Yvette, ask yourself one question. Do I have the foundation? System, room, electronics.

If the answer is yes, the Yvette is worth every penny of its $25,000, and I will even call it a bargain. Twice the price of the La Scala does not buy you 20 or 30% more; it buys a completely different category of performance. The law of diminishing returns, it evaporates.

If the answer is no, the Yvette may be wasted money. It needs the rest of the system and the room to operate: proper amplification, a treated room, a capable source, and it will reveal everything, the good and the bad. I bought mine because I had that foundation, and for no other reason.

So for most people, the La Scala is the right speaker, and I say that as the man who chose the other one. It suits warm, sweet-spot electronics, vinyl lovers with a decent setup, good discrete DACs, and listeners who play everything rather than only reference recordings. That is not a consolation prize.

The best speaker is the one your foundation can carry. For most of you, that is the beautiful Klipsch.
