The helicopter finally flew
On The Wall the helicopter gained real height in my new room, and not one component in my chain had changed.

I have played the helicopter sequence on The Wall more times than I can count. For years it never had real height in my system. In the new room, for the first time, it flew high.
I did that first critical session alone, with no partners from The Sound Lab and nobody to influence me. The helicopter came from high on the ceiling to the right, approached my listening position, then moved out and to the left until it vanished. And it stayed high the whole way, because at the end of the day it's a helicopter and it's flying.
Now the part that matters. Nothing in my signal chain changed: same Wilson Yvettes, same C12000, same MC611 monoblocks, same Transparent cables, same sources. The only things that changed were the room and the power, a rectangle with real choices of position and dedicated circuits for the monoblocks.
So the height I had been missing all those years was never in the gear. No preamp, cable or DAC I owned could have put it there, because the old room could not hold it. I would have kept buying components to find a dimension that was waiting for walls.
Before you blame a component for a missing dimension, ask whether your room ever let it exist. Mine did not, for years.
